“I assure you that even with the experience I have had of the most beautiful landscapes, nothing compares to the view from the tower and the palace of Queen Cornaro in Asolo”.
On the 22nd October 1889 Robert Browning uttered these words from the same location in which the “La Torricella” residence stands today.
The Place
Just a short distance away from Venice, and the landscape changes radically.
Walking in Asolo, up to Via Sottocastello, the air is laden with the flavours of sweet Tuscan undulations. Yet as soon as you cross the threshold of Torricella, there is a change in dimension: it is not just a residence on the Chianti hills, it is also a noble abode under the Ligurian sun, or a villa just outside of Rome with a nymphaeum surrounded by greenery.
La Torricella is countless places which become one in the eyes of the beholder, of each true traveller, each bearing the same romantic gaze as Robert Browning.
The Residence
It is the only place in the world where hearts are sure of each other. It is a place of trust. It is the place where we tear off that mask of guarded and suspicious coldness which the world forces us to wear in in self-defence, and where we pour out the unreserved communications of full and confiding hearts. It is a place where expressions of tenderness flow freely, without any feelings of embarrassment or fear of ridicule.
